Are any of your drug testing kits FDA 510k cleared?

Are employment drug testing kits bio-hazardous?

No, employment drug test kits are not bio-hazardous. Urine is not considered bio-hazardous unless it contains blood.

Are there any cross-reactions?

It is possible in drug testing for false positive results to occur. A more specific method such as GC/MS(Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry) must be used in order to obtain a confirmed result. Consult your chosen lab for a list of substances that may possibly produce false positive screening results.

Are there products that can be used in the tests to give a false negative on a drug test? What can be done to avoid this?

Although there are only a small handful of products that can be used to change the result of an impending drug test, there are validity screens available which can detect these adulterants. Some are integrated into the tests, such as the iCup® AD, which has built-in adulteration available, and we also have individual adulteration strips. See Cheat Protection for more information.

Can I photocopy the results of a drug test for my files?

All of our drug testing kits offer this option. This may be an important factor when it is necessary to maintain Chain of Custody (CoC).

No. Employee drug test kits should be stored at 36-86 F They are effective until their expiration date.

Do drug test results hold up in court?

Positive instant employee drug tests should only be used to attain preliminary results that allow for quick screening of positives from negatives. To stand up in a court of law, instant drug tests need to be sent to a certified laboratory for Confirmation or Confirmation with Medical Review Officer Services. Other options include performing a new drug test using a certified third party onsite collection service or utilizing a certified offsite employee drug testing service.

Urine and oral drug screens do not pose a biohazard risk and can be disposed of in regular waste receptacles.

If I receive a positive drug test result with On-site Drug Testing, what should I do?

Confirmation Drug Testing Services or Confirmation with Medical Review Officer (MRO) Services is necessary to validate a positive test within a DOT certified program or to be legal in a court of law in Non-DOTemployee drug testing programs.

Is it possible that the employment drug test is positive in On-Site Drug Testing, but the laboratory test is negative?

Yes. There may be medical reasons why a employee drug test will show positive. The certified laboratory will then do a more detailed drug test to determine the specific substance and either confirm it or record is as a “false positive”.

Is it possible to cheat the iCup® AD drug test kit by substituting or adulterating the specimen?

No. The iCup® A.D. drug test kit contains a Specimen Validity Test (SVT strip that verifies the validity of a drug test specimen. The SVT strip checks for oxidants, specific gravity and pHin the specimen. For example, if someone tries to substitute water for urine, the specific gravity indicator will show an abnormal reading. Is there any specific way the drug testing kits need to be stored? Do the drug testing kits have to be refrigerated?

All drug testing kits can be stored at room temperature up to the date of expiration printed on the individual foil pouch. They cannot be stored in extreme heat or cold and must remain sealed in the foil pouch until use.

Is there specific training required to administer these drug tests?

There is no official training required to administer our employee drug tests. We provide procedure cards and drug test interpretation quizzes free of charge. These instructional materials help you to administer, interpret and if necessary, package a positive result for Confirmation testing. What are the differences between oral fluid drug tests and urine drug tests?

An oral fluid drug test (saliva drug test) involves the use of a swab to collect saliva in the mouth and gums. An oral fluid drug test could also involve spitting into a receptacle. The drug or alcohol test does not require a restroom and the testing procedure can be administered right at your location. A urine drug test comes in a variety of formats, such as dips, pipettes, and cups. The iCup® AD, for example, has built-in adulteration tests available to check the validity of a urine sample.

What does it mean for a drug testing kit to have FDA 510k Clearance or be FDA 510k Cleared (Federal Drug Administration)?

The U.S. FDA (Federal Drug Administration) regulates food, drugs and medical devices through stringent clinical trials to verify their safety, purity and effectiveness, among other things. FDA 510k Cleared means that the drug testing kit meets these rigorous standards. It is against the law for any product or service to claim it is FDA-approved if it does not have their compliance.

What is the minimum amount of specimen needed for a conclusive drug test result?

It is always important to collect a sufficient amount of specimen in case of a positive result. The confirmation laboratory requires a minimum of 15 ml of specimen but prefers 30 ml for urine testing. For saliva, it is 2 ml.

What is the shelf life of on-site drug and alcohol testing kits?

On-site employee saliva and urine drug testing kits have a shelf life of between 12-18 months. On-site employee alcohol tests have a shelf life of 9-12 months. The expiration date is indicated on each individual foil pouch.
